The Piauí Juazeiro communication coordinator, Ezequiel Lima, said he had been contacted by the population and as this is the second year that fish turn up dead in the river, he triggered the Semar. A team from the Secretariat visited the site and found the principle that the oil can not be the cause of the problem because of the small amount.

"With this result came a second chance that the poison played by fishermen for overfishing has caused fish death. Reconhemos collection of the river and sent to the lab," said Ezequiel Lima.

To the superintendent of water resources of Semar, Romildo Mafra even proven that the shedding of oil, sewage or other minerals have caused the fish deaths, the case will continue to be investigated by the agency.

"It is strange that this problem happens exactly during the rainy season when the river begins to fill. We will confirm the use of this poison by fishermen caused these deaths, because this is a criminal act. Those responsible will be punished and the case sent to the Ministry public, "said Romildo Mafra.
